(sent by email)

Dear Mr Perkin

I write further to my email of Monday 29 March 2004.  I have now met with Michael Taylor who will now be starting the active investigation.  He will make contact with you in the very near future (probably before you go on holiday) to agree when you might meet and to make arrangements for the submission of the information you have which is relevant to the investigation.  In my discussion with Michael, I was able to confirm the following points:

1.         His previous NHS investigations have commonly involved consideration of the actions and conduct of senior managers and corporate bodies.

2.         Findings from Michael’s investigations have generally been made public.

I am sure you will recall that I agreed to clarify the position in respect of the above when we met.

I am also able to advise you of South West London SHAs plans to make the finalised report public.  When completed, I will submit the report to the SHA.  They will need some 2 to 3 weeks to consider the report and prepare an initial response.  They will then release the report in full at an appropriate public meeting.  At the same time as they do this, I will personally send a copy of the full report directly to you.

I trust the above is satisfactory.  Above all, I am pleased that we are now actively progressing the investigation.

Yours sincerely

David Sissling

Chief Executive
