BBC Panorama

On Sunday 29th June 2003 Panorama broadcast a programme called Fiddling The Figures in which the programme said it had uncovered  disturbing evidence about what some hospitals are doing to achieve the government's National Health Service (NHS) targets.  The programme told the story of several individuals within the NHS who had experience of wrong doing and included one former NHS chief executive who told Sarah Barclay the Panorama interviewer that failing to meet targets was considered a "sackable offence" within the NHS,  a senior hospital consultant who said that managers allocated him "zero minutes" to see a patient who wasn't considered a priority and myself revealing what happened when I discovered that St George's Healthcare Trust was altering the figures for cancelled operations.

If you missed the programme and would like to read a transcript of it and judge for yourself whether wrong doing is taking place within the NHS you can do so by clicking on the Panorama icon which will take you to the relevant page in the Panorama website.
