Adjusted variable cost Before embarking on assessment of whether it is
advisable to adjust variable costs in 02/03, I thought it was worth looking back
at what happened as a result of last year's adjustment.
The attached spreadsheet shows the result, at outturn - a net
"profit" of £1,586K, of which £911K was attributable to cardiac.
I got it wrong for gynae, where we refunded £8K more than we could
really release and, more significantly, for T&O: £59K. I will look and see if/where 02/03 targets are
significantly lower than actual outturn because that is the best bet for
increasing income.
