Surrey Police Authority Press Statement Monday 9th May 2005 Surrey Police Authority appoints award-winning Treasurer Surrey Police Authority has today announced the appointment of Ian Perkin as new treasurer. Formerly Director of Finance at St George's Healthcare NHS Trust, Mr Perkin is a highly knowledgeable and well respected figure in public sector finance. During his 12 years at the St George's NHS Trust he achieved many significant improvements to the finance function. Most notably he played a central part in the board's decision to allow the development of a £45 million cardiothoracic and neurological centre on the St George's site. Throughout the project Ian negotiated key aspects of the contract conditions. In particular, he ensured the cost of financial advisors was kept to a minimum and this was acknowledged in parliamentary questions as the lowest cost of any PFI scheme. In 2002 Mr Perkin's department received an award for 'best practice employer' from the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy. This was a particular achievement as only 3 other public sector bodies had ever won the award. In addition to the NHS Ian has also worked in the local government and education sectors. His experience has earned him a place in the judging academy for CBI and Real Finance Magazine's Finance Director's Awards 2005. Commenting on Ian's appointment, Sue Martin, Director of Surrey Police Authority, said: "The role of treasurer is particularly important as the Authority's key responsibility is to set the annual policing budget. Ian's experience and knowledge will be invaluable in fulfilling this major task in an increasingly challenging environment. We are very pleased that Ian has joined us and both the Authority and the Force will benefit from his wealth of experience in public sector finance. Ian replaces our former treasurer Colin Wright who has left us after 3 and a half years of dedicated and highly valued service to enjoy his retirement." -Ends- About Surrey Police Authority
