RE: Cost Reduction Programme/Budget Setting 2000/01 I
have NO concerns at all...indeed if it were not for Phil Sargeaunt's advice I
doubt I would have found the savings found to date. He has been particularly
helpful in explaining the process this year and suggesting areas we may
consider. Ruth -----Original

Cost Reduction Programme/Budget Setting 2000/01 Dear All At a meeting I had with
the Chief Executive yesterday he expressed some concerns about the role he felt
that the management accounts staff were playing in the formulation of the cost
reduction programme and the budget setting programme for 2000/01. The Chief Executives
concerns seem to relate to the question of whether the finance managers are
playing a team role and assisting you in identifying areas of potential savings
as well as contributing original ideas that will contribute towards a robust and
achievable cost reduction programme. In
the meetings I have had with you all I have not detected any degree of
dissatisfaction with the financial
support you have been receiving from your finance managers, or the way they are
putting together your cost reduction programmes and budgets for presentation to
the Chief Executive. However, it is clearly possible that I may have not picked
up from you concerns that you have about the finance manager support you are
receiving and as this is one of the issues that the Chief Executive has said he
will want to explore at Tuesday afternoons meetings, I should be grateful if you
could let me know any problems that you believe your are experiencing with the
role your finance managers are playing so
that we can address these issues and deal with them in a constructive and
corporate fashion. Ian Perkin Director of Finance
