Letter To Sir Nigel Crisp 23rd December 2002 23
December 2002 Nigel
Crisp Permanent
Secretary and NHS Chief Executive The
Department of Health
Dear Mr Crisp,
Until
December 4th this year I was the Director of Finance Information
& Computing at St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust.
Despite the fact that I had been employed continuously in the public
sector for over thirty years, having spent the last sixteen of those years at St
George’s, twelve of them as Director of Finance, with a completely unblemished
disciplinary record I have been dismissed from my post. Not
only have I been dismissed for reasons which I consider unjustified, I was
dismissed in breach of contract (I was not given notice) and expressly denied
the right to any appeal. Employment Tribunal proceedings have been commenced,
and I am aware that you will have to bear that in mind when replying to me.
However, I would be interested to know whether the decision to dismiss me
without notice or appeal was made with your prior consent. If not, then as
Chief Executive of the NHS could you please confirm to me what authority the
Chair of the Trust had to reach such a decision. If she did not have the
requisite authority (to deny me notice or appeal) then please could you
confirm to me what action the NHS Executive will be taking against her in
this instance, to prevent other Chairs acting this way in the future.
Yours sincerely
Ian Perkin CPFA FRSA
