E-mail Sent To John Hutton MP Minister of State For Health 14th November 2003 From: Ian Perkin [ianperkin@blueyonder.co.uk]Sent: 14 November 2003 09:31 To: 'huttonj@parliament.uk' Cc: 'eddavey@cix.co.uk'; 'WRIGHTT@parliament.uk'; 'LIDDELLI@parliament.uk'; 'Grayling@parliament.uk
Dear Minister
I was very
gratified to hear you make such a clear and unequivocal statement, that you
would not tolerate the deliberate misreporting of waiting list figures within
the NHS, when you appeared on the BBC London news programme on Wednesday
November 12th.
You will no doubt
be aware, that I was also interviewed on that programme in connection with the
deliberate misreporting of outpatient figures in early 2001 and you will
probably also be aware that I am currently awaiting the outcome of an
Employment Tribunal Case, during which St George's Healthcare NHS Trust
admitted, that in October 2001 I made a "Public Interest
Disclosure", when I flagged up the fact that St George's had been
misreporting the number of cancelled operations that had taken place
at that hospital.
Since December
2002 I have been asking Sir Nigel Crisp the Chief Executive of the NHS to hold
an independent inquiry into what happened at St George's, but despite the
wealth of written evidence I am able to supply, which
clearly demonstrates the wrong doing that has taken place at St George's
and indeed across the wider NHS, Sir Nigel has failed to
undertake any independent investigations into these matters.
Having written to
both the previous Secretary of State for Health Alan Milburn and his
successor John Reid about the wrong doing I have identified and never
having received a reply to either letter, I felt that the only
way forward was to publish the information at my disposal on a website, so
that both NHS staff and the public could see just what it was that the NHS
were trying to prevent being investigated and last week I launched www.nhsexpose.co.uk to
achieve this objective.
My purpose in
sending you this e-mail, is that because you made such a clear statement
on television that you will not tolerate the fraudulent manipulation of
figures to achieve targets, I want to invite you to use your authority to
ensure that an independent investigation is now put in place to examine the
issues I have raised. You will find a lot of the information you
will need to justify the investigation on the website, but if there is any
further information you require please let me know and I will be pleased to
supply it to you.
I look forward to
you making good your public promise and should be grateful if you could
forward me details of how and when these matters will be investigated at
your earliest convenience.
I have copied
this e-mail to those Members of Parliament from all three political
parties who have been kind enough to help me with my case over the last
fifteen months.
Yours sincerely
Ian
Perkin
